ChitChat - With Cleopatrick

EMERALD:
How did you both get into music? Was there something that really inspired you to start playing?
CLEOPATRICK:
we got into music through our parents. it was a combination of AC/DC and some guitar playing family members that made ian and i want to pick up guitars.
EMERALD:
2. Where did the name cleopatrick come from? Did you have any other names picked out when deciding a name?
CLEOPATRICK:
we just made it up. it’s not great, but our other options were worse. i think we considered “monks cove” for a little bit. lol.
EMERALD:
3. What does your creative process look like?
CLEOPATRICK:
I like to drink a bunch of coffee, strap my guitar on, and jump around my basement playing whatever comes to mind whilst reflecting on our friends, our shows, and our fans. we write songs almost exclusively with our live show in mind. each track is usually brought to life based around a lyric, or a concept for a live moment.

4. What is your favourite song that you have written and why?
CLEOPATRICK:
it’s called 2008 and it will be your favourite too when you hear it.
EMERALD:
5. Tell me a little about your new track “The Drake” and what you hope that listeners take from it.
CLEOPATRICK:
THE DRAKE is about a gig we played back in 2017 at Toronto’s “The Drake Hotel” where a few of our high school bullies turned up and started punching people in the mosh pit. i hope THE DRAKE makes the timid kids feel a bit more hopeful.
EMERALD:
6. What is the biggest goal you have accomplished?
CLEOPATRICK:
quit our day jobs.
EMERALD:
7. Outside of music, do you have any hobbies?
CLEOPATRICK:
music is pretty all-consuming for us. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about astrophysics and cosmology and stuff — if thinking about space counts as a hobby that might be mine. I’m planning to buy a telescope this summer so i can look at the moon and stuff. maybe mars too idk
EMERALD:
8. What is your best live show moment?
CLEOPATRICK:
we put on the greatest house of all time 2 years ago. it was in my basement. i built a massive stage and we had a full club PA + SUB setup. we rented two school busses and convoyed over 100 friends from around our town to my house and had such a crazy night. free beer and 4 epic guitar bands. fucking PUP played with us that night. we literally wrote them a letter asking if they would come play and they said yes. it was so dope. historic even.

9. If no one had heard your music before, how would you describe it to them?
CLEOPATRICK:
our music is honest.
EMERALD:
10. What’s next for you?
CLEOPATRICK:
we are going to drop our debut album this year.
