Dwayne from A Swift Farewell’s Top 5 Drummers

Rian Dawson (All Time Low):

The one that started it all, the sound I fell in love with that first got me into drumming and pop punk in general. Simple but energetic, upbeat and groovy; I will always look at Rian's drumming as the roots of my own style and passion.

Matty Best (Tonight Alive/Sleeping with Sirens):

My taste in sound preference and overall style can be related to Matty's transition between bands. The groovy upbeat style of his time with Tonight Alive going into a heavier side with Sleeping with Sirens, I'm a huge fan of it all!

Alex Powys (RedHook):

My favourite local drummer, such a nice bloke and has so much energy when he plays. He's got such a tight and fast style with heavy and badass fills. He really is a motivation for us local boys.

Tim Molloy (Our Last Night):

I love how Our Last Night writes their cover songs and hearing heavy drums over well-known pop songs really just butters my egg roll. Tim's kick patterns specifically are always killer and always work as great practice.

Dani Washington (Neck Deep):

The pure pop punk is where it's at. Fast and upbeat rhythms, quick fills with double kicks thrown in, just nonstop nailing the kit and Dani does it amazingly. Neck Deep were my top artist last year and most of the reason for that is just the amazing sensation that his quick drum style gives me.

Sydney-based pop-punk quartet A Swift Farewell have just revealed their emphatic new single ‘Stressed Out’ featuring fellow Sydney punks Clay J Gladstone and including an evocative accompanying music video.

‘Stressed Out’ is a liberating avalanche of heartbreak, self-doubt and frustration, complimented by searing guitars, thudding kick drums and the impassioned vocals of lead singer Emma Mather. Clay J Gladstone’s Timothy Wisbey roars into the second verse, creating a beautiful duality between both vocals, before returning to the track’s cathartic choruses.

The band talk about the meaning behind ‘Stressed Out’:

“The song is about not expressing emotions and often hiding and burying feelings until it gets too much. We wanted to show our darker side with this track, as we felt our two previous singles were a fair bit more pop-influenced and mid-tempo. Funnily enough, its working title was actually ‘angry boi’.”

The accompanying music video was filmed at Sydney Props Studio in Marrickville by Colin Jeffs (Yours TrulyJesswar) from Ten Of Swords Media. The clip focuses on two distinct sets as the band fling themselves into the performance, contrasting between the outdoor, flowery set and the claustrophobic underground. “We built the set ourselves,” explains Emma. “It was a hustle! First, we had to build huge panels of fake grass. It represents the chaotic ‘inside’ of that same person who’s pretending they’re fine but hiding all their bad feelings. Then, at the end of the video, we tried representing ‘getting buried’ by having people throw gardening soil at us while we played. We thought this was a good idea, but it was so painful as the soil was getting into our eyes and mouths and clothes.”

To support the release, the band are supporting Heroes For Hire in their long-awaited return at the Burdekin Hotel in Sydney. This continues on from multiply sold-out shows and sharing the stage with Australian local heavyweights FANGZHeadstrong and Cambridge.

Previous releases have been widely embraced by SpotifyApple Musictriple jtriple j Unearthed and Australian community radio. They’ve also received online support from Alternative Press (USA), Blunt MagazineHysteria MagazineMusic FeedsWall of SoundBackseat Mafia and Something You Said.
