It is with great excitement that I OH YOU reveal the highly anticipated debut album from Sydney alt-country rocker Andy Golledge – Strength Of A Queen. Out Friday 4 March, the album is announced alongside with his electric new single ‘Rescue Me’ accompanied by a rollicking live video produced by Yeah, Rad.
Andy Golledge’s name has practically become folklore in Sydney’s Inner West, both for the exhilarating unpredictability of his live shows and the curveballs of his repertoire, genre-hopping between ’60s country and ’80s Greatest Hits rock, but also for his deep love of the community he surrounds himself with. His debut full length Strength Of A Queen is an album for his community and one that will mean a lot to the plethora of local acts who are solidified fans of Golledge’s soulful tunes.
A rumbling rock song that packs a punch, ‘Rescue Me’ is a staple of Golledge’s live show and there’s no argument as to why. The larger-than-life sound of the full band matched with Golledge’s righteous falsettos evokes the feeling of being right there on stage with the rowdy six-piece, ready to dive into the sweaty, welcoming crowd.
Describing the track, Golledge says: “‘Rescue Me’ is about rescuing yourself, it could be rescue me or could be rescue you, whatever you need help with at the time. Ultimately, it’s an unadulterated piece of rock n roll, that the band and I loved writing, creating, and recording. There is no greater high than hearing the audience chant this back at us when we play it live. The energy and emotion this song seems to evoke in people is what music is all about!”
A lifetime in the making, Strength Of A Queen is a record that perfectly captures the unpredictability and raw energy of Andy Golledge and the infamous live show he and his band have been barnstorming around Sydney’s haunts for 15 years. Across 11 tracks that Golledge calls “the road trip of my life so far”, there are songs for your highs, songs for your lows, and songs to remedy whatever ails you.
Recent double release ‘New Stamp’ and ‘Baby Mumma’, and 2020’s ‘Ghost of Love’ will appear alongside ‘Rescue Me’ on Strength Of A Queen. Together these tracks have seen adds to Double J, ABC Country and Radio KIX, plus rock and alt-country tastemaker playlists across the US, UK and Australia (Apple’s Breaking Singer/Songwriter (US), Country Wide (US), Southern Craft (US), Untitled (UK) and Spotify’s Indie Arrivals, Broad Chords and Fresh Finds.
With ‘Rescue Me’, Andy Golledge unites his recent body of work and presents them as pieces of a story that will be told in full on his long-awaited long play - Strength Of A Queen.
