Today, Melbourne-based electronic rock band Black Cab return with new single 'Halo', released via Interstate40 / Remote Control Records. Comprising Andrew Coates and James Lee, and accompanied by drummer Wes Holland, the trio's latest track is the third teaser of their forthcoming album - Rotsler's Rules - slated for release in mid-2022. To celebrate it's release, Black Cab will be performing a headline show at Melbourne's Howler on Saturday 11 December - tickets available here.
Punctuated by glimmering arppegiated synths and driven by expansive, pacing percussion, 'Halo's woozy dreamlike trance encapsulates the otherworldly daze the track's lyrical protagonist finds themselves in. Following on from singles 'Hanna' (2020) and 'Rotsler’s Rules' (2021), 'Halo' was recorded with help from Graeme Pogson (GL, Harvey Sutherland) on drums and Ev Tweedie (Husky, Dub FX) on bass, with production at the hands of long time Black Cab collaborator Woody Annison and mastering by Andrei Eremin.
Formed in 2004, Black Cab made their debut with their critically acclaimed album, Altamont Diary, followed by Jesus East (2006) and Call Signs (2009) - the latter shortlisted for the 2009 Australia Music Prize. The band's fourth album, Games of the XXI Olympiad was released in November 2014 to critical acclaim and sold out shows in Melbourne with works from the album performed on Melbourne Town Hall’s grand organ. In 2017, the band was commissioned to write and perform an alternative soundtrack to the 1988 manga classic, Akira and a subsequent album inspired by classic Japanese sci-fi anime was released in July 2017.
The trio have brought their discography to life at the Sugar Mountain and Paradise festivals, Golden Plains, National Gallery of Victoria, Brisbane’s Gallery Of Modern Art, and 2019’s Supersense Festival of the Ecstatic at the Melbourne Arts Centre.
