Celebrated for their sophisticated lyricism, vivid melodies and strong creative foundations, Adelaide alt-rock outfit Cosmo Thundercat are making a triumphant return with their highly-anticipated new single ‘Hell Without You’ and the accompanying music video, out on September 10.
With an impressive back catalogue of releases including 2014 breakout self-titled EP and 2016 EP ‘Warning Bell’, Cosmo Thundercat are known for their distinctive sound that combines the best facets of indie-rock, whilst continuing to pay homage to their folk-roots beginnings.
Now, almost three years after the release of 2018 single ‘My Friend’, Cosmo Thundercat are back in full thundering force with refined new track ‘Hell Without You’, demonstrating that good things come to those who wait.
With a pronounced stomp of the drums and a melodically strummed guitar, the song begins in a triumphant flourish as frontman Anthony Callisto’s warming vocals begin to weave a vulnerable tale. Upbeat percussion and delicate backing harmonies build to a swelling chorus, containing an infectious lyrical hook that pulses with a triumphant heart. Deceptively high-spirited, the song carries an underlying grit, felt with a raw, pleading vocal tone and bittersweet guitar melodies. Rising with a movie-worthy instrumental build, we reach the track’s epic peak, billowing with driving drums and an invigorating alt-rock explosion, well-suited for a glorious mountain-top moment.
‘Hell Without You’ touches on our inherent need for connection, as we continue walking a fine line between joy and desperation. Anthony further explains:
“This song reflects on our need for connection with others. It’s about vulnerability and longing for someone. It also explores the contrast between times in our lives when we bask in the light, feel full and content and times of darkness when we feel lost.”
A familiar sight on the stage, Cosmo Thundercat have supported Gomez, Husky, British India and more, with their previous releases garnering attention from the likes of Music Feeds, theMusic, Tone Deaf, Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, Scenestr and AU Review, among others.
So rejoice in Cosmo Thundercat’s return with their new single ‘Hell Without You’, out everywhere on September 10.
