Singer Songwriter DREU.X buckles up for the release of the Australian unofficial national anthem “Down Under” this September. The cover stems off of the singer’s successful blind audition on The Voice Australia season 10, 2021.
DREU.X and Melbourne producer Benjamin McCarthy (Gordi, G-Flip, Alex The Astronaut) have teamed up together yet again putting a modern, haunting and ethereal twist on an aussie classic. DREU.X and Ben first collided on her recent debut single ‘Little Girl’.
“ After my blind audition went to air, I received so much love for my take on the Men At Work song. I couldn’t believe the admiration. One comment that stuck with me was “This is exactly what I needed to hear whilst living away from my home country, Australia.” I felt so honoured to be able to promote this magnificent body of work for the people in my own way. This buzz and gratitude I felt led me to release a full recorded version by
DREU.X”
DREU.X’s cover of “Down Under” emphasises the dark hidden lyric listeners may have missed, until now. The anthem has been known to be a celebrational song. Whilst front man and writer Colin Hay says “It’s ultimately a song about celebration, but it’s a matter of what you choose to celebrate about a country or a place.”
With the influences of Kate Bush, BANKS and Fleetwood Mac, DREU.X’s moody, cinematic take on Indie Pop commands attention with a voice that goes from tiny precision to giant roar.
““Down Under” and I met in perfect time. From the words of Colin Hay “One of the most interesting and exciting things about the country (Australia) is what was there before” I am so honoured to be able to share with you my take on this absolute classic, in depth, multi meaningful Australian song.
