With silky neo-soul melodies dipped in a fondue of alt-R&B influences, Brisbane-based artist Hannah Sands constructs moods that drape across the skin and etch themselves in the heart, just like with her newest single ‘Where Do We Go’, out on September 2.
Introducing herself in 2020 with debut single ‘Choices’, Hannah Sands has not gone unnoticed, releasing multiple subsequent tracks that showcase her consuming story-driven songwriting, soulful lo-fi grooves and rich, velveteen vocals.
Now, ‘Where Do We Go’ brushes softly across the cheek with feathery hand percussion and melodic keys, as Hannah’s decadent vocals weave effortlessly through the verse. Drizzled with spiralling vocal harmonies and indulgent grooves, the track builds to a tropical crescendo with a flourish of percussive intensity. Composed until the end, Hannah leaves us with her delicate jazz-infused vocals, her final question floating in the air.
Supported by her boundless ability for storytelling, Hannah Sands wrote ‘Where Do We Go’ about futile fights with loved ones and the importance of making it right, stating:
“‘Where Do We Go' is a neo-soul groove about navigating the fights that don't matter and the making up that comes later. Taking you through a journey of classic songwriting with a light groove and vocally rich delivery, this song is exactly what you need.”
Hannah Sands’ previous releases have seen support from Triple J, Spotify (‘Happy Girl’ landing 5 Spotify editorials), Triple J Unearthed and more, with the artist continuing to captivate audiences with her live performances, which includes a powerful set at Brisbane Hidden Lanes Festival.
‘Where Do We Go’ is out everywhere on September 2.
