Introducing The Big Heat, a brand new indie-pop outfit led by Londoner Lucy Taylor and Sydney-sider Dave Jenkins Jr. Today marks the release of the duo’s debut single “Band Aid”. This single serves as a taste of the tracks The Big Heat are set to release over the coming months.
It’s quite likely you may have unknowingly seen or heard these two before. Lucy Taylor has toured with the likes of Kele Okereke of Bloc party and MGMT before forming her own artist project Pawws. From this she became a multi platinum hit-writer and has written songs for Dua Lipa, Friendly Fires, Future and Ellie Goulding to name but a few. Dave Jenkins Jr has toured with Daniel Johns of Silverchair, Vera Blue, Kirin J Callinan, and a whole host of others.
Currently focusing more on production, Dave has released music with Bec Sandridge, Lenka and Owl Eyes. He also has his own artist project, NOT A BOYS NAME displaying his weird and wonderful production and writing skills.
Taking cues from the The Shins, Paul Simon and Whitney, The Big Heat’s organic sound is the culmination of Lucy’s classically trained background and Dave’s self taught production approach.
The end result is a vintage pop amalgamation of doubled vocals, flute layers, crunchy drum machines and a walking bass line, tied together by edgy DIY recording techniques.
On writing and recording the song Jenkins Jr remarked “We basically completed the whole song in a day. Lucy started playing the chords on an old JUNO synthesiser and I just started plucking away on my bass. We were both going through some similar personal dilemmas at the time, and this just happened to be the best way for us to figure it all out.”
The duo share musical duties on the recording with Lucy taking the piano, synth and flute parts, while Dave plays guitar, bass and drums. The track was produced by Dave Jenkins Jr.
“Band Aid” is a song about acceptance, friendship and starting again.
