Celebrating a year filled with mesmerising performances and cherished tracks, Jack Davies & The Bush Chooks welcome their new EP Shadows and Sounds of the Night. A release that is warm like Spring and as melancholy as its title, Shadows and Sounds of the Night is moving in its form.
With a songwriting style recently compared to the likes of Paul Kelly and Archie Roach, Jack’s unique approach to musical textures and instrumentation takes the front seat. Staying true to their signature story-telling, Shadows and Sounds of the Night unravels into a mystifying blend of alternative folk that feels untouched in the acoustic realm.
Already released tracks, “Fire Eyes” and “Inner City Lights” won the hearts of triple j Unearthed, crowning the band a feature artist back in July. The focus single “Penguin” is a grand and nostalgic opener for the six-track release.
Shadows and Sounds of the Night is a bundle of emotions. As Jack explains;“The EP is a collection of songs about memory, fear and hope.The title comes from the track ‘Cinnamon Pie’ which is about my neighbour who brought over food one dreary morning. It’s a solo piano song, that mulls over late night anxieties and early morning calms.”
Jack will be taking his new single and his Bush Chooks around the country in the coming months, with dates and venues to be announced.
Since releasing their first single at the end of 2018, the band have gained over 2 million streams on Spotify alone, as well as radio play across the country. Accolades have poured in too, WAM’s “Best Folk Act” and a National Live Music Award for “Best Live Act in WA” in 2019. In 2020, they were awarded the WAM Song of the Year Grand Prize Runner Up and Country Music Song of the Year for single “Half Frozen Beer”.
