Sydney-based Iranian rapper Kiyanosh has just unveiled his audacious new EP ‘Dying Alone’ - releasing through Spretbot Syndicate.
‘Dying Alone’ is six tracks of jazz-laden hip hop, dripping with soul and deft wordplay, featuring several of his label mates and frequent collaborators to create a varied collection, ranging from introspective to chaotic.
Kiyanosh describes the inspiration and process behind the EP:
“’Dying Alone’ is a collection of songs I made with my friends during the process of working on my debut album. With every song being radically different to the next, the project essentially presents itself as a smorgasbord of sounds, emotions and ideas, all of which represent some part of me. I hope that with this project people can gain a stronger understanding of the various sides of Kiyanosh and what I'm really trying to do with my work.”
Opener ‘Work Ethic’ begins with eloquent keyboards, warm percussion and rolling double bass, before leading into previous single ‘4BAR4’ featuring Sydney artist Stoyan. Both rappers trade lines and inflexions back and forth, creating something wholly playful and skilful.
Track three ‘Guilt’ melds lush basslines, reverberating guitar chords and eclectic percussion into a meditative soundscape as Kiyanosh spits lucidly. Warped synths kick off fourth track ‘B.O.O.F (For Khale)’, samples cutting in and out of the records most manipulated track.
Next up is lead single ‘KARMA’, filled with ominous production and distorted vocals, finding Kiyanosh at his most menacing. Closer and title track ‘Dying Alone’ is heartfelt and reflective, finishing the EP in a contemplative yet satisfying manner.
Previous releases have been strongly supported by the likes of Australian radio stations triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, 2SER FM, 2XX FM, 2RRR and Radio Adelaide. His tracks have also received praise from blog tastemakers AUD’$, The Word is Bond (USA), Hip Hop Magz (USA), Music Feeds, The Soundcheck and Something You Said.
Kiyanosh embraces the sounds of jazz, soul, electronic and everything in between. Born and raised in Sydney with most of his family overseas, Kiyanosh often explores his Iranian roots, his Australian upbringing and the inevitable clash of cultures, ideals and lifestyles between his two worlds.
Kiyanosh is also a member of hip-hop duo SKID2 and founder of the Spretbot Syndicate record label and collective.
