Warrang / West-Sydney Afroswing artist Big Skeez returns to Nina Las Vegas' NLV Records today, with the release of his first solo single on the label, 'No Trace'.
Sitting at 113 bpm, 'No Trace' is a breezy Swick-produced (Kota Banks, Tkay Maidza, Diplo) ballad that puts Big Skeez’s instantly recognisable vocal against hazy, Afrobeat-influenced production. This late-night jam tells the story of a lost love trying to make their way back into Big Skeez’s life. He shares, "This song is about my ex-girlfriend trying to come back to my life but it’s too late. I've already moved on, enjoying life without dramas and won’t let anything get between me and my grind."
His ability to write smashing toplines is central to the impact of 'No Trace'. From the onset, the cadence of his vocal works symbiotically with Swick’s delicate sound design, complimenting each other perfectly to create a moody soundscape. Compounded with the chorus, the cause for the single's impact. Skeez sings "Can’t feel my face / Flying outta space / Won’t let her get in my place / them man can’t find me no trace” with such conviction, you’re left hanging on by his every word.
Big Skeez’s first release with NLV Records was 'On Tonight', a collaboration with Naarm / Melbourne-based producer FOURA. 'On Tonight' was the first single on the label for both artists. In its first month it received full radio support from the likes of triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, PBS FM, SYN and more, copping big-screen rotation on both RAGE and MTV alongside playlisting on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon, as well as support from Purple Sneakers, Life Without Andy and more. Last month, Strict Face delivered his take on 'On Tonight'; a drum-fuelled, flute-tinged wonderland that honoured the original, whilst staying true to his signature production style.
Big Skeez is arguably one of South West Warrang / Sydney’s most hard-working up and comers. Over the course of his creative career, he glides between hip-hop and dancehall, switching between effortless raps and sung verses like it’s nothing. Over the course of his career, he’s been a frequent collaborator of Lil Spacely and has worked with Dopeboy, A.Girl and more. Stay tuned for more from Big Skeez coming soon.
'No Trace' is out now via NLV Records, buy/stream it here.
Big Skeez has been releasing music independently out of South West Sydney for the last 5 years, before his breakout track in 2019 'Madness'. In this time, Skeez’s sound has developed from his Afro and Dancehall roots into tracks like 'This Ain’t Easy No Way' and 'Long Time' with Gibrillah. Across features in Spotify playlists such as A1 Hip Hop, The Drip, Local Hype, New Music Fridays AU/NZ, Apple’s Fresh Finds, and played on New Australia via Apple Music, Big Skeez is also a regular collaborator with Lil Spacely, teaming up on several tracks including 'Dopeboy', 'Murdahh', 'Westside' and 'Nerves'.
