Song Review - LLC (Lorenzo La Cava) - 'Somebody's Baby'

REVIEW BY: JADE GUIDA

I am a huge believer that life gives often gives you reminders about progress and appreciating how far you have come, the opportunity to review LLC is that for me.

A few years ago, before I regularly went to local gigs and even before I took up photography, I saw LLC at what used to the HideAway Bar in Newtown. I remember walking in and sitting on the bench seats in the back and being mesmerized by the music. I didn’t have a love of local music the way I do now, and I remember just walking away from that show wanting to get more involved.

I always talk about that time before I was shooting gigs, and the bands and musicians responsible for making me want to take up photography and LLC falls into this category. LLC is an exceptional storyteller and extraordinarily talented musician. From the first time I saw LLC, I was captivated by his ability to leave you hanging to a feeling that felt so fleeting and so paper thin and yet still big enough to grasp. His ability as a musician to explore emotion and delve into the human experience is masterful. LLC continues his legacy of covers with Jackson Browne piece ‘Somebody’s baby’. I had a healthy amount of skepticism about how this would turn out and went back and forth between listing to audio only or going for the full immersive experience and watching the video as well.

I went with the video. I did not regret it!

The video was wonderfully quirky and added a fun element to the song, it was also a nice nod to the time and era of the original. I think it its often a sign of great musicianship when you listen to a cover, and it plays like that musician could have written it and LLC has that effect. LLC makes this song his own. The stunning arrangement and vocals in this track make it a must listen.

Lorenzo’s stunning vocals are threaded effortlessly through this track, creating this feeling of lightness and uninhibited excitement that leaves you wanting more. This track has that wonderful intangible quality that LLC best described himself by saying “Each song and cover has its own personal 'origin story'. Those momentous moments of when you first hear something that moves you, tends to leave a timestamp on the mind & heart.” It is that unequalled feeling of something leaving its mark on you, that feeling that is beyond words or time.

This new release is something to be excited about, LLC is someone to listen to, to watch, to go and support. Check out this latest track, watch the wonderful and slightly peculiar but extremely fun video and don’t sleep on this wonderful musician.
