With his eclectic genre-bending style, Strangely Enough is returning with a tranquillizing synth and indie-rock soundscape haven with his new single 'Are You More?' (Out May 21) ahead of his long-awaited debut EP.
Since debuting in 2017, multi-instrumentalist Greg Olley (Strangely Enough) has released three sonically vivid singles which collectively have seen support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, theMusic, AU Review, AAA Backstage, Happy Mag, MTV, ABC Rage, Scenestr and many more.
Following up those releases, Strangely Enough is announcing the release of the debut EP 'Stories You Tell Yourself' (Out June 18) alongside the release of this contemplative and euphoric new single 'Are You More?'.
Seething with hypnotic synth – created by an old, home-recorded vocal sample –, rubbery basslines and a fast, punctuated drum beat, 'Are You More?' makes for a palpitating, anxiety-inducing number. Grounding the track however is Olley with his soaring vocals and introspective lyrics that ingeniously explores social injustices and word wide crises. Olley passionately states:
"This song started off being about climate change; a reflection on how easy it is to just not think about it but all the while knowing that your actions are contributing to this looming existential threat. As I was writing it the world went through multiple crises of our own making: racism, sexism, mass extinction, all of which are ongoing. I began to wonder how this time and my generation would be looked back on. Past generations sometimes seem unbelievably flawed, but here we are making terrible mistakes, the injustices of our society laid bare."
Asking the big questions, the fittingly titled track moves through these thought-provoking sentiments and questions to conclude in an electro-indie-rock supernova.
'Are You More?' is out everywhere on May 21 followed by the release of Strangely Enough's debut EP 'Stories You Tell Yourself' on June 18.
