Yazmindi releases single ‘Dream On’, a retrospective on adolescence

Yazmindi teases the release of forthcoming debut album with title track ‘Dream On’. This single is a distillation of the core messages that shine in the album - a reflection of the journey from dreaming teen to ambitious young woman.

This astute theme of empowerment, especially towards young women runs strong and true to Yazmindi’s core values. This self-actualised version of Yazmindi is a refreshing and bold statement of the importance of self-love.

“Through my life's journey I noticed that the world isn't always kind to us women when we are just being ourselves. My female empowerment anthem that defines my debut album, will inspire women all over the world to shine and forever 'dream on' regardless of what life throws at them.” Yazmindi

Dream On is 3 minutes and 5 seconds of empowerment and optimism as Yazmindi addresses her younger self. Narrating her journey through adolescence, Yazmindi recounts moving across Australia, living alone and ultimately finding strength from independence by staying true to herself. Yazmindi sings in the closing lines, “You can say what you want to me, but I’m already free, you can say what you want to me but your words don’t mean a thing”

Pulling aural influences, the album traverses genres, leading the next generation of indie-alternative - her repertoire expertly dances between folk, rock, pop, acoustic and soul. This pastiche of influences heard in this title track reflects the aural expansiveness of the forthcoming album.

The single was recorded at Mountain Kauri Studio in Far North Queensland. Co-produced with QMUSIC award-winning ARIA nominated mixer and producer Mark Myers (The Middle East, Greta Stanley, Emma Louise). The track was then mastered by Grammy Award-winning Australian sound engineer, William Bowden (Gotye, Spacey Jane, Kylie Minogue).

The teased album contains previously released singles, ‘Avocado Latte’, ‘Talk’, ‘Man’ and ‘Give it Up Jane’ and ‘Bars Ain’t Closin’. These singles saw Yazmindi’s loveable brand of unique indie-folk achieve significant community airplay support from stations like FBi, 3RRR, SYN, 4ZZZ, 89.7FM, ABC local radio network, Bay FM, and Coast Fm to name a few. This was supported in tandem with music editorial support from AU Review, Scenestr, Amnplify, Fashion Industry Broadcast, GC Live, Life Without Andy, The Music to name a few.

Heralding from Cooktown, Far-North Queensland, now based in Byron Bay, a strength of Yazmindi’s character is her authenticity and groundedness. Despite having performed to large crowds at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas (twice), and Woodford Folk Festival, as well as support act for Aussie icons such as Megan Washington and Troy Cassar-Daley - Yazmindi is still no stranger to playing at her local Byron Flea Market or aiding the community led Lismore flood clean-up initiative. These strong community values are a testament to the authenticity and community-centric approach of Yazmindi.

Yazmindi has recently launched a crowdfunding campaign with the funds raised going directly towards the production costs of her debut album. As a completely independent artist, self-booked and managed, Yazmindis creativity and community involvement shines alongside live streams and concerts to support this. The campaign via Pozible, ends 1st August.

Yazmindi is one of the next generation of singer-songwriters that build upon the previous successes of iconic front runners Missy Higgins, Julia Jacklin and Courtney Barnett. Her evocative soundscapes are a combination of deft guitar work, clean drums and swelling harmonies. Featuring her signature harmonica flair and stomp box - this work is undeniably and unforgettably Yazmindi.
