Song Review - Lisa Mitchell - “Dreaming, Swimming”

REVIEW BY: Reina Cogan

Close your eyes and picture yourself slowly drifting down a river, lined with a tunnel of trees arching overhead. Your eyes are lost in the blue hues from the sky above, and you feel almost enchanted. Are you there? Well, that’s exactly where Australian singer-songwriter Lisa Mitchell transports you in her new single “Dreaming Swimming”.

Taken from her fourth studio album “A Place To Fall Apart”, which is set to be released on the 22nd of April, this single is nothing short of pure magic. Lisa's dreamlike soundscape transports you to a mystical scene where you are torn between feelings of sorrow and hope.

“Dreaming Swimming” feels like an ode to someone you’ve lost. Perhaps an old lover, a family member, or even a loss of self. A pain that can only be escaped through your dreams. The theme of reminiscing your past plays throughout the single, and you can’t help but think about someone you’ve lost.

Being a big Lisa Mitchell fan from her early days as a singer-songwriter, she has no doubt brought her A-game once again. Keeping faithful to her unique tone, the song boast her wistful and almost mystical vocals. And although there is a sadness to the song, the playful undertones from the piano somehow bring a cheeky and spirited soul throughout the single. Through the piano Lisa somehow creates that hopeful feeling that love can still be found in a place of despair.

If you’re an alternative, indie, or folk music fan and are looking for a song to ease that broken heart. Or perhaps you’re just looking to unwind and be taken on a journey through Lisa's transcendental tones. If so, this is the single for you.

If you are hoping to snag this song for yourself, or catch Lisa on stage, she has recently announced details of her new album A Place To Fall Apart along with the accompanying Album Launch Tour, which is starting in Red Hill on the 20th of May. The album is produced by Tom Iansek and features the new single “I Believe In Kindness” and “Zombie.” The album will also be released digitally and on vinyl on April 22, so make sure to mark the date.
