Bailey Judd Launches Vibrant New Single 'Brand New Car'

SUPPORT FOR 'BRAND NEW CAR'

“It spins in this stylish, sprawling kinda way and has me dizzy but definitely on a high!” - 4/5 stars
Declan Byrne – triple j (AUS)

“Pun not intended but Bailey really sold me on this one with the '80s prog-pop production. It's got a euphoric upright pomp to it.” - 4/5 stars
Dave Ruby Howe – triple j Unearthed (AUS)

“A joyous ride from start to finish, belying the angst felt by the protagonist.”
The AU Review (AUS)

“Ok Tears For Fears reincarnate. This one tickled me more than a swab up the snoz! Nailed the retro dipped swing which is paired perfectly with some psych-pop mayhem.” - 4/5 stars
Joe Khan – triple j Unearthed (AUS)

Melbourne-based indie-electronic artist Bailey Judd has just revealed his first release of 2022 in the form of his effervescent new track ‘Brand New Car’ – produced by the artist himself and mastered by Adam Dempsey (Angie McMahonCourtney BarnettEilish Gilligan).

‘Brand New Car’ is a strutting explosion of 80’s inspired synth-pop that sets an unrelenting pace through its groove-laden synth bass lines and vigorous percussion, oozing confidence with each thud of the kick drum. This forms the vibrant base for the track's infectious melodies, as both Bailey’s vocals and the lead guitar playfully intertwine to create wholly memorable hooks.

Bailey talks about the inspiration behind ‘Brand New Car’:

“The song was written during lockdown about the frustration of being a freelance musician making just enough money to make rent while watching your friends buy new cars and live an unattainable life. It is also about the societal voice telling you that your youth is running out, prescribing conformity in order to be loved and taken seriously in the capitalist world. The lockdown caused me to reflect on my parent's paradoxical attitude towards money - striving to be rich but being irresponsible with the money they had.”

To coincide with the release, Bailey will perform four shows as part of a residency at Melbourne’s The Retreat across the whole of February. Previous singles have seen support from Australian radio stations triple jtriple j Unearthed, 3RRR2SER4ZZZJOY FM and 2RRR. He’s also been featured by Australian boutique music blogs Trouble JuiceBen Madden Blog and Like Velvet.

Bailey Judd has been producing and writing his music for over a decade. Taking cues from luminaires Tame ImpalaJohn Mayer and Prince, Bailey cut his teeth at frequent appearances at Australian Blues Festival, collaborating with a multitude of blues artists and performing to thousands of attendees. Drawing inspiration from the divide between classes, beach views and dive bars, Bailey’s brand of synth-pop is uniquely eclectic and melancholic.
