Chris Cheney Debuts At #8 On The ARIA Chart With 'The Storm Before The Calm'

Chris Cheney has stormed the ARIA Chart this week with his debut solo album The Storm Before The Calm landing at #8 on the Album chart and #2 on the Vinyl Chart.

Chris Cheney says, “There can only be one thing better than releasing a solo album for the first time, and that’s when it debuts in the top ten!!! Wow! The response has been much bigger than I could’ve imagined. Thank you to the Liberator team and everyone that worked on the record and especially those who’ve taken the time to listen. Huuuuge!!!”

After nine albums and countless incendiary shows across Australia and the globe with his band The Living End, The Storm Before The Calm sees Cheney stepping out on his own for the first time. The album captures him in his songwriting prime, showing a deeper side to the guitar slinging, rock n roll wild man - one that we’ve never seen.

The Storm Before The Calm is more varied than anything Cheney has written before – there’s the new wave power pop on California’, Otis Redding-style, 60s soul on ‘Lost In The Darkness’, gentle balladry on ‘Football Team’, brooding swampiness on ‘Exile’ and of course some southern style barroom boogie thrown in for good measure on ‘Little White Pills’.

Chris and his band will take The Storm Before The Calm on the road throughout July and August, playing shows in Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle, Sydney and Melbourne.

The Storm Before The Calm joins Jimmy Barnes’ Soul Deep 30 (#1) and Vance Joy’s In Our Own Sweet Time (#16) on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart, marking 3 Mushroom Labels releases in the top 20.
