Friendless - Reveals Sophisticated New Single 'Lay Low' ft. XIRA
Following on from the highly praised release of ‘Drip’ ft. Jannah Beth, one of Australia’s most ingratiating electronic artists Friendless has today returned with his stylish new single ‘Lay Low’. The track features Sydney-based electro-pop vocalist XIRA, who has collaborated with acclaimed internationals 3LAU and Nicky Romero.
Opening with pulsating keys, ‘Lay Low’ gently builds with XIRA’s euphonious melody, floating effortlessly amid atmospheric electronics. Intricate chords and dynamics combine, as the song crescendos into a solidifying chorus; rich in bass and bouncing synth chords. The harmonic vocals compliment a polyphonic array of instrumentation, as the undercurrents rise and fall while the song’s structure soars towards its hypnotic climax.
Friendless talks about the inspiration behind ‘Lay Low’:
“'Lay Low' is at its heart a love song, about stealing away and just escaping the world together. I wanted to give the track an energy that would be euphoric in a club and equally at home being cranked way up on a road trip.”
Friendless’ latest single ‘Drip’ ft. Jannah Beth was heavily supported by the likes of BBC Radio 1, Spotify, MTV Upload, triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, Radio Q (DEU), Australian community radio and KISS FM, who added the song to rotation. The track reached #6 in the ARIA Club Charts and was also praised by online tastemaker blogs The AU Review, Acid Stag, and Tone Deaf.
Previous releases have been embraced by the likes of ABC’s rage, Pilerats, Purple Sneakers, Project U and Cool Accidents. Friendless was the unpublished category winner of the 2020 International Songwriting Competition, and his single 'Lemonade', a collaboration with Dave Winnell, reached #21 in the Top 50 ARIA Club Tracks of 2020.
Friendless has been remarkably active in the live arena, spending over half a decade playing shows across the country, having shared the stage with the likes of PNAU, Duke Dumont, Shiba San, and Justin Martin. He was also just announced as a finalist for APRA's Professional Development Awards.
