Treasured for her irresistible blend of folk-rock and blues, delicately imbued with a distinctive Americana charm, Brisbane songstress Ruby Gilbert is returning with her newest single ‘Die Young’ (out November 19).

Timeless, heartfelt and enchanting, Gilbert’s alluring sonic aptitude has found her on the receiving end of multiple accolades since her 2018 debut EP ‘Dearly Beloved’, with critical acclaim continuing into this year as latest single ‘No Vacancy’ earned her yet another Queensland Music Award nomination.

Now, Gilbert combines her seductive vintage blues with intoxicating folk-rock elements to deliver ‘Die Young’, a deliciously dangerous track that smoulders like a warning. Moody guitars and compelling underlying rhythms hold the line as Gilbert’s rich, smoky vocals move deliberately through the track, delivering a powerful mix of determination and vulnerability. Overarching electric guitar riffs stir and shift, remaining eerily isolated even when joined by flickering guitar layers.

None are able to resist the pull of the chorus as Gilbert’s lyrical hooks are delivered with an anchoring precision, the all-encompassing track prevailing as a successful blend of the old with the new, its timeless energy brought together seamlessly with lustrous production.

In true Ruby Gilbert style, ‘Die Young’ features her authentic vintage storytelling, written about a relationship running its course, and the resulting confliction between feelings of isolation, especially during lockdown. Gilbert further explains:

‘Die Young’ is about feeling relieved to be alone after a relationship, but then ultimately feeling desolate. Whilst feeling conflicted, I felt lonelier in their presence.”

Gilbert’s previous releases have seen support from Music Feeds, Pilerats, Music Is My Muse, Tone Deaf, Triple J, Double J and more, with the artist back on the live music scene following a COVID-19 induced hiatus since opening for the likes of C.W. Stoneking, Justin Townes Earle and The Teskey Brothers.

Ruby Gilbert’s new single ‘Die Young’ is out everywhere on November 19 and she'll be launching the single on the 9th of December at the Black Bear Lodge in Brisbne alongside JB Peterson and Jo Davie.
