Teenage Joans Announce Debut Album 'The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest' & Share Glossy New Single 'Candy Apple'.

Get ready to groove to the beat, because Adelaide's indie rock duo, Teenage Joans, are bringing you a delectable treat with their brand new single "Candy Apple," along with the exciting announcement of their debut album "The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest." This sonic journey is set to drop on October 13 via Domestic La La, and it's about to redefine your musical expectations.

After hitting us with the anthemic single "Superglue" earlier this year, Teenage Joans are cranking up the cool factor even higher with "Candy Apple." This track isn't just a sugary delight; it packs an intimate punch that's bound to resonate with you.

According to the band, "Candy Apple" marks a new era for them, showcasing a more honest and personal lyric style. The metaphor of "falling in love with a candy apple" speaks volumes – something sweet and captivating can also decay easily. This metaphor is woven into both the album's aesthetics and its themes, offering a tantalizing glimpse of what's to come.

Inspired by the golden days of punk embodied by Blink-182 and Paramore, as well as modern Australian icons like Waax, Camp Cope, and Tired Lion, Teenage Joans are soaring to new heights with "The Rot That Grows Inside My Chest." Embracing darkness, vulnerability, and authenticity, their debut album is a rollercoaster of emotions and sounds. From pop-punk anthems to mosh pit-ready breakdowns and future karaoke anthems, this album defies expectations, while remaining utterly relatable and showcasing their musical evolution.

Working alongside producer Jarred Nettle and drawing inspiration from the likes of 5 Seconds Of Summer and Camp Cope, Teenage Joans are crafting an album that speaks to their journey while pushing musical boundaries. With 13 tracks waiting to captivate your ears, the album seamlessly weaves between light and shadow, culminating in tracks like the ethereal "Moneymoneymoney" and the pulsating "5 Things I Can Taste."

"This is Teenage Joans in its purest form," says Blakers, emphasizing that "there’s no co-writes on this album, it’s all us."

"Our music has evolved so much, and all of our different inspirations have come together into this one little baby – our little baby," adds Borg.

Since their inception in 2018 as actual teenagers, Teenage Joans, composed of Cahli Blakers and Tahlia Borg, have made their mark. Winning the triple j Unearthed High crown in 2020 and captivating audiences nationwide, their "juice-box punk-pop" sound has left a trail of awe in its wake. Sharing stages with big names like Amy Shark, Violent Soho, and Ball Park Music, as well as gracing festival lineups like Spin Off, Yours & Ours, and UNIFY Gathering, they've firmly established themselves as festival favorites.

From their debut EP "Taste Of Me" that snagged seven South Australian Music Awards to their blazing 2022 hit "Terrible," Teenage Joans have consistently delivered indie-pop-punk fusion with flair. And now, as 2023 unfolds, their star is shining brighter than ever. From recent appearances at Groovin The Moo to three SXSW showcases and headlining Adelaide's UNIFY Off The Record, this year is destined to be Teenage Joans' grandest chapter yet.

Keep your eyes peeled as Teenage Joans make their mark at Sly Withers' SIDEFEST 2023, and get ready to join the musical adventure as they rock Grapevine Gathering across Australia in October. As the excitement continues to build, they're set to share the stage with The Chats supporting Foo Fighters in Perth and Melbourne this November. Get ready to be part of the Teenage Joans phenomenon!
