The Grogans reveal infectious coming-of-age single ‘Just A Kid’

“Equal parts slick and powerful, the surf-rock tune captures the classic Grogans sound, complete with an anthemic chorus, mesmerising guitarwork, and lyrics that speak to nostalgia, adolescence, and the impending arrival of what’s on the horizon.” – Tyler Jenke, Rolling Stone Australia

“new single ‘Just a Kid’ is just over two minutes of swampy fun with shouty choruses, reverb drenched surf-inflected guitars and a pounding rhythm section. It careens along like a cartoon car chase where the brakes have been long gone but you know everything is going to be fine. The overall effect is like the love child of The Ramones and Supergrass.” – Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia

Genre-expanding trio The Grogans return with their first new music in 12 months on the infectious surf rock jam ‘Just A Kid’. The Melbourne outfit of best mates Quin Grunden, Angus Vasic and Jordan Lewis, have quickly made a name for themselves with their nuanced manoeuvres in surf, punk, blues and reggae explorations since first breaking onto the scene with their debut release in 2017. After releasing three distinct EPs and two studio albums, The Grogans are excited to continue their highly prolific output and unveil their next incarnation with the release of ‘Just A Kid’.

Out today via Cousin Will Records, ‘Just A Kid’ is a playful surf romp, complete with sing-along chorus chants and that quintessential Grogans flair that continues to resonate with fresh-ears and returning fans alike. Circumnavigating the equator of adolescence and adulthood, the single is as much a nostalgic reminiscence of the band’s past, as it is an impatient longing for the horizon’s greener grasses. Angus and Quin’s combined surf jangle and punctuated guitar riffage is propelled by drummer Jordan Lewis’ well oiled machine, while Quin’s commanding vocals beckon for the ease of times bygone and futures untapped.

“I find it fascinating how quickly life is changing at the moment and I couldn't really articulate it in a ‘serious’ song. Being a kid is so sick but you don’t entirely realise that until you're older, I guess that's what this song is all about. I'm trying to really embrace this confusion in between the changes and grasp the idea of getting older” – Quin Grunden, The Grogans

As a live act, The Grogans are a truly unmissable affair. The trio deploy a variety of sounds with cohesion and conviction, mainly focusing on a spacey surf rock ilk, while hinting at gutsy blues rhythms and grunge throwbacks with an inclusive, pointedly positive punk attitude. The Grogans have supported the likes of Ocean Alley, Maddy Jane, Northeast Party House, Dear Seattle, Drunk Mums, The Chats and Polish Club, and will soon take their captivating live show on the road when they play NYE on the Hill and support Hockey Dad across 15 dates of their 2022 East Coast tour. Do not miss your chance to catch this unstoppable tour de force when The Grogans roll into a town near you.
