Quickly following on from the release of his second EP lush in August, upsidedownhead returns with a fresh new single ‘everybody talk about’. The self-produced track introduces a confident new direction for Ross James, the songwriter and producer from Sydney, exploring his passion for sampling and piece-based music.

‘everybody talk about’ features the introductory lines of a BBC 1 hip hop show recording that upsidedownhead stumbled on to sweet effect. The repetitive sample, voiced by English DJ Mr X is woven amongst bold 90s-inspired beats to create an energised dancefloor bop. The song touches on the idea of being consumed and overwhelmed by the constant chatter we are subjected to from social media, TV, radio etc. It arrives with cover artwork from upsidedownhead’s close friend and musical ally, Bertie Blackman.

"I spend a lot of time trawling old records, youtube, instagram and sample libraries looking for moments of magic to piece together. It’s like building a puzzle but you're creating the joining curves to connect the pieces. I heard the line “everybody talk about this and this, that and that” and it resonated with me. It may be the media, celebrities or friends… everyone's talking about something and it's never been harder to determine the truth at first glance. I’ve tried to piece together words to create a commentary on the way we can feel consumed by all the talk out there."

‘everybody talk about’ hints at a new sound for upsidedownhead as he starts work on his third EP. On his previous release lush, upsidedownhead worked with an array of like-minded artists to create a polished collection that would feel accessible to fans. Collabs with the likes of Mansionair, Isabella Manfredi, Hein Cooper and Clea amassed over 3.8 million streams across DSPs, and caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 (UK), RTE FM (Ireland), triple j, FBi and tastemaker sites such as Complex, The Line Of Best Fit, CLASH, Atwood Magazine, Purple Sneakers and Acid Stag.

‘everybody talk about’ takes upsidedownhead deep into the clubs, ready to explore a new realm, where he feels right at home.
