Alex Gow’s project Perfect Moment introduces debut album KANGOUROU
INDUSTRY PRAISE
“Miss the discotheque? Oh Mercy frontman Alexander Gow’s neo-romantic alter ego Perfect Moment cures your dancefloor blues on Kangourou with propulsive rhythms, resonant melodies and the most seductive croon this side of Bryan Ferry. Imagine heading home from the nightclub, neon light bouncing off your face as it presses against the taxi window. Think the Triffids produced by Robyn. Gow melts an intoxicating vibe to arch lyricism with an antipodean flavour on highlights such as “Bushfire Ballet”, “Time & Date NY”, “A Beautiful Fluke” and the aptly titled “Infinite Attraction”.”
- Simon Collins, The West Australian
“Alex is always looking for a new way to look at songs. With Perfect Moment he’s dipping into the electronic world to flesh out his creations, but maintains an emphasis on melody and lyricism.”
- Bernard Fanning
“Gow goes pow with an edgy New Order meets early Icehouse cut that knows exactly what it wants to do at all times: move you”
- Mikey Cahill
“The lyrical quirk might not be new to fans of Oh Mercy, but the sounds certainly are: a throbbing disco beat, Bootsy Collins bass and a hushed voice. It’s like the dance revival that swept the 2020 charts (think Dua Lipa and Jessie Ware), if the pop stars were stuck in a Collingwood bedroom with a midi keyboard.”
- NME
An unravelling concept album of romance and heartache
Presenting his pivotal project Perfect Moment, Alex Gow is entering a daring yet comfortable new era of his musical career. Recognised for his prolific songwriting under the ARIA winning project Oh Mercy, Gow boldly emerges as Perfect Moment with a celestial neo romantic album KANGOUROU, available now from Endless Recordings.
Lyrically, KANGOUROU chronicles a beautiful, yet failing romance. Defined by shimmery undertones and poignant melodies, the soundscapes are a strong bed for Gow’s intuitive songwriting. Over its ten songs, KANGOUROU definitively demonstrates Gow’s profound artistry and ability. Take a deeper dive into the world of KANGOUROU via the track by track notes here.
The debut album includes the already released track, 'Not This Time', a cocktail-dance infused piece, which received high praise from industry and fans alike. 'Nightclub' is the focus track from KANGOUROU and is the album opener, inviting listeners into Gow’s euphoric world of quasi-dance music.
Gow reflects on the writing process of KANGOUROU; “Working on KANGOUROU was a real thrill. I'd take a lockdown walk and write lyrics in my phone. Once home, I'd sit at the piano and find chords to suit the mood of the words. The next stage of writing the melody is always a wrestle until it's not. An uneasy marriage until it's easy. Once It got to the shape where I could sing with piano accompaniment I turned the drum machine on. That's where it all began."
Gow’s decade-long experience in the music industry goes beyond his musical releases, with the launch of One Guitar, a new podcast in collaboration with Mushroom Group. Guests are given the same Gibson J-45 Vintage Sunburst (the best-selling acoustic guitar of all time) and four weeks to write a new song. They then return with the guitar and reflect on their process with an interview and performance. Australian music royalty such as Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, and Sarah Blasko along with rising star Alice Skye and international success story DMA’s Johnny Took are amongst the guests, giving listeners a rare insight into these highly revered songwriters’ methodologies.
Immerse yourself in the realm of modern and colourful electronica that is Perfect Moment. The debut album KANGOUROU, is available now for your listening pleasure via Endless Recordings.
