Jewel Owusu’s Indie-pop single ‘Mixed Signals’ featuring Jarrod Jeremiah out now

Perth based half Filipino and half Ghanaian artist Jewel Owusu has had a fragrant life born in Hong Kong, growing up in New Zealand and now on track to be one of Western Australia’s best pop outputs releasing her latest single ‘Mixed Signals’ featuring Jarrod Jeremiah.
Jewel's diverse background has allowed her to not only create a sound that is uniquely Jewel but form her identity through her music. Her third and last release for the year comes after a busy year of gigs, releases and chaos amongst the pandemic, with the support of the Spotify Fresh Finds project attesting to the rise of Jewel.
Chances are if you’re around Perth you’ve probably glimpsed Jewel's incredible live set. Owusu has thrived in the Western Australia’s music scene opening for some of the biggest names such as Adrian Dzvuke, Supathick, and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets to name a few as well as locking in support touring slots for the likes of Methyl Ethyl & Ponds national tours (which was unfortunately cancelled due to covid).
The track features Jazz-pop multi-instrumentalist Jarrod Jeremiah whose crisp vocals work in harmony with Jewel’s lush tones and Conor Lawson’s strong production to create an uniquely colourful song.
“NAMESAKE (drums), Conor Lawson (guitar) and I (keyboard) were jamming. I then went home and worked on the melody and lyrics which easily came to me when I was alone,” as Jewel says.
Speaking about the track, Owusu says, “Mixed signals is an upbeat indie-pop song following a playful back and forth narrative about being in a grey area with someone and not knowing how they feel about you.”
“The main takeaway from the song is; if someone likes you then you’ll know,” she said.
With more collaborations, festival slots and projects on the horizon, the relatively new artist is showing no sign of slowing down. If you want to hop on her vivid ray of rising sunshine and enjoy fun and vibrant music, Jewel Owusu’s ‘Mixed Signals’ is the perfect treat to satisfy that sweet, warm summer craving.
