With a fearless approach to songwriting paired with powerful, emotionally-ripe deliveries, Brisbane indie-pop songstress Lucy Korts is fast becoming known for her intense vulnerability, enchanting vocals and empowering aura, revealed once again with her brand new single ‘Gone’ (out February 4).
Instilled with the strength of a singer and the heart of a songwriter, Lucy Korts debuted in 2017, sharing the stage with the likes of Alex Lahey, The Paper Kites & The Temper Trap at the Queensland Flower Festival, garnering well-deserved recognition from her stirring performances and enthralling vocal prowess.
Since then, Lucy Korts has continued evolving her sound, using electro-pop flavours to match her unflinching lyrical instincts, releasing multiple singles, including ‘Crocodiles Cry’, ‘Not Your Type’ and last year’s ‘Everyone’.
Now, Lucy Korts descends in a dark curtain of synth-charged energy with her distinctively bold lyrics tied to a dense, moody soundscape. Starting low with deep keys and a compelling beat, Korts’ vocals are drenched in a delicate strength, each pain-seeped word hitting hard enough to leave a scar. With a polished production that makes expert use of modern synths and empty space, the song moves towards a chorus of layered vocals featuring Korts' sweet falsetto, paying homage to pioneers of the electro-pop genre.
With the force of an intense cathartic release, the bridge explodes in a crescendo of dramatic synths as Lucy’s unshrinking vocals ignite a powerful lyrical hook. As the song continues to build with unyielding emotional strength, the impact of Lucy’s grief hits hard with one last painful realisation.
Known for connecting with audiences through the vulnerability she brings to her songwriting, Lucy Korts delivers her gentle strength to ‘Gone’, written about the gut-wrenching pain of being hurt by someone, as she explains:
“'Gone' is a feeling like the one in your chest when your heart is breaking. It's an anthem for anybody who has been hurt by somebody in a way words can't show, bringing a strong and equally as delicate pop beat that delivers honesty to the feelings that come with hurt.”
Lucy Korts’ previous releases have seen support from Music Is My Muse, Amnplify, Hit 105, 4ZZZ and more, whilst her well-attended live performances have travelled both locally and interstate.
The heart-aching new single ‘Gone’ from Lucy Korts is out on February 4, with an accompanying music video not far behind.
