Returning with a swift, stylish follow up to their most recent release, eccentric indie/ art-rock outfit The Great Emu War Casualties are unleashing their newest single ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ on November 26.
It’s been a giant year for the Melbourne-based trio, seeing them release luscious EP ‘Vanity Project’, unveil their most recent single ‘Anything Really’ and now, announce ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ as the first in a series of six tracks partially recorded at the former Super Melody World studio.
Admired for their avant-garde approach to the indie genre, The Great Emu War Casualties have battled through various Melbourne lockdowns to bring forth ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’, a summer welcoming track lavished with the band’s distinctive stylings.
Folded with bold indie-rock elements and vivid alt-pop textures, ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ leaps forward with pronounced guitar loops, lunging basslines and animated percussive grooves as Joe Jackson delivers vocals dripping with an accented warmth. Like donning breathable linen layers on a balmy day, the track is accented with lush guitar riffs and dynamic melody lines, bending towards a buoyant chorus urging nostalgic dance moves. Flecked with shining moments of indie-infused decadence throughout, a woozy spot of psychedelic brings the song to a quirky Great Emu finish.
Partially recorded at James Cecil’s Super Melody World, ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ underwent a trial by fire of sorts, making it through multiple lockdowns and a studio accident before its completion, as Saskia Clapton explains:
“This track is dedicated to James Cecil’s Super Melody World, which burnt down one week before our sixth COVID-19 lockdown was lifted.”
Previous releases from The Great Emu War Casualties have seen support from Triple J, AU Review, AAA Backstage, Milky, Scenestr, Backseat Mafia, Aus Music Scene and more.
