How unimaginable is it to think that 14 years ago Bring Me The Horizon released their debut album Count Your Blessings. 14 years of success, personal and musical development later it is irrefutable that Bring Me The Horizon have never stopped growing, learning and breaking musical barriers. It is hard to believe that the same musicians who released Count Your Blessings all those years ago could have created these newer pieces of music.

Post human: Survival horror which was released October 30th is a part of a four EP project which will once again shatter every preconceived idea you have about BMTH

You can see how they have evolved over time as artists and have never stopped being inspired by the world around them. The band never ceasing to surprises fans kicked out the red carpet with an opening track “Dear Diary” that had a riff that would not have seemed out of place on Suicide Season. A little taster of something that is reminiscent of That’s the Spirit, but only a taste.

Made mostly during lockdown this musical masterpiece  has a really eerie almost post-apocalyptic meets the cold war feel. There is an echo of dread through the album. The album chronicles frustration, struggle and even a sense of apathy. In Dear Diary we can hear Oli scream . ‘God is a shithead and we’re his rejects’ and during Parasite which was released right when Covid had a strong foot hold you can hear ‘When we forget the infection, will we remember the lesson.’ The thing about Bring Me The Horizon is they have always been exception at just doing whatever they want and the result of that with their recent releases is that they have been able to capture and present the real plight of humanity. The good, the downright fucking awful but also the triumph. The essence of this new EP is; well we are kind of fucked so let’s make the best of it.’

BMTH aren’t out on the ledge for this one alone, they have some surprising and not so surprising help. I think most would have seen Obey with its terrifying giant-robot video with YUNGBLUD. What you might not have expected was the absolute legends that are BABYMETAL also make futuristic metal contribution and I cannot leave out Evanescence’s Amy Lee who also made an appearance. With so many contributors and BMTH have outdone themselves by once again ploughing forward and cementing themselves a unique 2020 sound.

There is no doubt that over a 14 year career BMTH have something for everyone but the strides they are taking in recent releases are extraordinary. This band is growing and leaving others behind in dust and rubble. You better keep up because BMTH waits for no one.
