Curly Blonde - Room 309 -Single Review
Review By: Maddie Kasyan
One group of up-and-comers you’ll want to keep on your radar are Curly Blonde, a glistening indie surf-pop Aussie duo who have recently dropped their latest single - and your new favorite song - ‘Room 309.’
It’s a dreamy upbeat toe-tapper, with sweet vocals serenading about falling short of one’s goals. Brynn O’Connor, one half of the duo, say the song is about “someone who had such big imaginings for their life and set aspirational goals growing up, yet, they’re extremely unsatisfied with how things have turned out,” which is something we can all relate to in some form or another.
‘Room 309’ is a song you’ll want to add to your roadtrip playlist and listen to while the sun goes down.
Curly Blonde’s sound is reminiscent of bands like The Limousines and Work Drugs, with gently catchy hooks and infectious vocals. They feel like surf indie-pop sprinkled with yacht rock, but are ever-evolving, and you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on them.
The video was crafted entirely by the boys themselves in Victoria, Australia, during the COVID-19 lockdown, and they really hit the concept of feeling trapped but wanting to escape. It depicts the Curly Blonde boys sitting on the same couch, simply going through the motions of life throughout the video.
The smooth melody combined with poetic lyrics fit perfectly with the music video, and the pair has more bright, sleek hits like this up their sleeves.
Room 309 is out now.
