Song Review - Ali Barter – You Get In My Way

A few months after the release of her killer new track ‘Twisted Up,’ Melburnian rocker Ali Barter has graced us with yet another new track and video; ‘You Get In My Way.’ It’s full of the energy and angst that Barter does so well.

Getting straight into it with a minimalistic guitar riff, Ali’s lyrical genius is brought forward through her Courtney Barnett-esque spoken word storytelling verses, which gives us a glimpse into the early and formative years of the rocker. The video features Barter in an empty room, speaking directly to the camera, which truly allows the listener to feel every word she’s saying. We then get into the massive chorus, an area Barter always excels in, where the guitar is turned up to 11, and there’s a huge singalong chorus, that’s bound to make you feel good and want to join in. During these choruses Barter’s up and playing her guitar like it’s a live gig, which helps further the energy and power behind the track. The clip finishes with Barter driving away from someone, showing that no one’s in her way anymore. An awesome conclusion to a great song and music video. Barter just keeps getting better and better.
