Song Review - Manchester Orchestra - Bed Head

After a few years out of the spotlight, American 4 piece Manchester Orchestra have returned to our airwaves with their latest track ‘Bed Head.’ Opening with a Prodigy-esque drum sample that suits the freaky nature of the video, they come in full force with their unique brand of indie rock we have come to love over the last 17 years.

This out of character drum loop continues throughout most of the song, but is massively emphasised during the verses, when frontman Andy Hull paints a word picture with his sophisticated lyricism and vocal skills. The choruses are full of epic, angsty sounds, where there’s a lot of emotion and sentiment behind every lyric, and every instrument is turned up to 11, which are definitely both really reminiscent of the early days of alternative rock with bands like Thirty Seconds To Mars and Kings of Leon.

The music video for ‘Bed Head’ is phenomenal, it acts as a mini movie that you need to watch to fully understand the intent behind the track. The clip suits the minor nature of ‘Bed Head’, showing a mother and child trying to escape a haunted house – and succeeding in the end, which is supplemented in an aural resolution at the conclusion of the song.

This is the first single off their upcoming album The Million Masks Of God, which can’t come soon enough.
