Song Review - Blake Cateris - ‘Careless Memories’ (Duran Duran Cover)

This is different. Blake Cateris cracking a first release milestone with ‘Careless Memories’ a Duran Duran cover. This is not your standard cover. This is not a boy picks up guitar and mindlessly plays a tune. This is artistry at its finest. This is a showcase of Cateris’s skill, hard work and overwhelming talent. Blake Cateris is one of the most talented and capable musicians in Sydney. This release just further cements him as an all rounded and technically capable musician. I was really surprised when I gave this track a first listen. I am a huge fan of the Duran Duran version, so I was a little dubious. Blake was so raw and powerful in his delivery and his arrangement just added another dimension. The second Blakes Vocals drifted into the song I was astounded by the intensity. The vocals on this track are smooth and precise. He dances over the notes with effortless ease and draws you in to the narrative. The delivery of this cover is exceptional, it is a nod to the original but so unique that its has that stand alone quality where you wouldn’t even want to compare it to the original or anything for that matter.
The quality of Cateris’s work goes without mention. Truly, no one who has heard a piece of music that he has had a hand in would question the finish and this is no exception.
This is a brilliant release, I am excited to hear more from Blake in 2022.
