Song Review - Lightweight – This One’s On Me

REVIEW BY: Camilo Piovesan

It is probably thought for most of us in an image-obsessed world go through the highs and lows of life, especially men who tend to not share their troubles with a mate, would only share the good times and keep up appearances of all that is good to your inner circle. How about your struggles? If it sends you down the depths of destruction, affecting negatively on your mental health, you would be glad to know rather than fake it for the sake of fitting in, you can find solace in escape through true friends that surprisingly – most likely secretly – go through what you are going through as one group at times against the “norms” and the way society tells you to behave.

Punk Rockers Lightweight, from Sacramento, California are back with a new EP, This One’s On Me. Certainly is, and it delivers four tracks that deliver the lyrics to what you may be feeling when you are going through heartache, depression and anxiety, break ups and strife, in heavy fashion that will make you smile for a while and most likely take you away from the pressures of life. Listening to the tracks will make you feel included, with the band’s aim in to de-stigmatise mental health in their songs in a very transparent way, and record songs has in common with others experiencing the heavy blows that sometimes reach us. Whiskey Is Not A Jacket, the first track, affirms the listeners that you are not alone despite the judgement.

21 Grams Between Us talks about fast love, where one thinks they are deliberately impossible and reckless, and wants to push their lover away even though they are always on their mind. However, as through thick and thin, their lover stays.

Lightweight is a group of four lifelong friends that have been through all the trials and tribulations, however have stuck together for the long haul. The band has this to say about the release: "In comes the winds of change. You can't always be sure of when, or which direction you'll be thrown. But you can be certain that what is important to you will always reign true in your heart. This One's On Me is a reminder that, even though we haven't spoken in ages, I think about you often and, when we meet again, let's pick up where we left off."

With the heavy guitar riffs and harmonies with a tinge of melancholy, you can still create your own moshpit with these tunes on the EP. No filter.
