Are ready to rock out to, Adelaide band, Nocturnal Animals’ newest smash hit Where’s My Mind Been?. If you aren’t, get ready for a tune!
From start to finish, this song just hits. Nocturnal Animals is a relatively small band from a small city, which is why they may fly under your radar. However, you wouldn’t want to overlook them. The trio have been together since 2019 and are only growing bigger and bigger. They have an amazing sound, painted deep meaning to their lyrics and let’s not gloss over their look; donning overalls and skeleton face paint, they dress to impress, and it certainly isn’t forgettable.
They’re an alt-rock band with a sprinkle of punk mixed in for good measure. The sound they have developed for this track is a culmination of all their experiences regarding relationships but more importantly, the feelings they felt after it had ended. This line belted out with obvious sadness in their voice “Since you been gone, I don’t know where my minds been” is something I feel many of us could relate to. And to spell their regret by using the lyrics “Clean the blood from my teeth”, is used to remind us that things we say can hurt, and we can’t always take them back. Nocturnal Animals take you through their journey as they reflect on all their regrets, and it hits deep. Telling us in many ways how what’s done is done and just deal with it, it’s too late.
The sounds which they’ve mixed together and formed isn’t far short of brilliant. Nocturnal Animals know what works and they don’t mess about by drowning your ears with it (in a good way). I found myself getting caught up in the song and down the rabbit hole listening to all their other tunes. Where’s My Mind Been? Really has got something for everyone and I feel that you don’t need to be in any particular mood to listen to it, which is fantastic; it annoys me when I find a great band but can only listen to it depending on how I feel.
I have no doubt this song is going to absolutely tear up the stage when played live.
