Song Review - Ruby Mae & Paddy - Honey

REVIEW BY: JADE GUIDA

Paddy and Ruby Mae, brother and sister from Melbourne, team up on this sultry folk delight of a release.

This song is absolutely dripping.

This song is delicious.

I could not stop listening to this track, I wanted to play it in to infinity.

The velvet vocals, the harmonies, the slight twang of the guitars. I couldn’t be happier to know a song was being released. This song is aptly named ‘Honey’ because it is a sticky, thick golden treat.
The best way to describe this song is full bodied, an almost tangible entity. I felt as if I could hold this song in my hands, and pass it through my fingers indefinitely, its fluidity and beauty undeniable.

This song is a rare find.

It has a folk almost country feel, it is The Lumineers sonically with Kasey Chambers vocals and lyrics but still has enough of its own passion and body to be unique and unmistakably unlike anything else you will hear. It has the rawness that is only present in the best of folk. The song just feels honest, like the writers sat down with you over coffee and you were having a conversation.

The song is captivating.

This song is your best friend telling you the latest gossip over a coffee at your favorite spot- you want to be present in every single moment. The drawl in the vocals is like a sirens call, they are addictive and enchanting.

The finish on this piece is masterful, its clever song writing, talented musicians and it’s tied up with a neat bow. I could not praise this song enough.

About Ruby Mae & Paddy

Paddy (Birdhouse, Poison Peril, Laceout) and Ruby Mae, brother and sister from Melbourne, team up on this collaboration after realising that they both had a similar country/folk/soft rock vein running through their own solo works, some of which had been written nearly ten years ago. It was meant to be, it’s happening now, get into it.

Loving the sounds of musicians like Chris Stapleton, Tori Forsyth, Noah Gundersen, Kasey Chambers, Johnny Cash, The Lumineers, the duo were drawn to create music with simple guitar foundations and lyrics that punch you in the guts. The end result is them and their band bringing ‘country’ music to Melbourne and more, with their ‘own brand’ fusion of indie, alternative, blues, country, folk, and rock.
