Tim Wheatley - 'Lying Low' - Song Review
Review By: Jade Guida
Tim Wheatley is a warm hug from a loved one.
Tim’s music sweeps you up and engulfs you with a sound brimming with emotion. We have crossed strange times recently and Tim has dropped a tune that will strike a chord with anyone who has any tinge of Iso blues. I would like to present LYING LOW the sound for social distancing. Lying Low is raw and carnal, its intensely raspy vocals floating through a smooth and sultry melody.
From the very first listen you feel instantly connected to Tim, like he is speaking to you directly. This song is masterfully written and has this immensely personalised feel which can be chalked up to the introspective nature of the song. It is a rare and formidable quality in Musician that they can write a piece so personal to them and still have it be so relatable and Tim has undeniably cracked this barrier.
The song journeys through some heavy themes, exploring feelings of isolation and separation from the people and things we often find to be the grounding forces in life. I think the true crowning glory of this song is how it addresses interpersonal relationships during our emotionally dark times. The song explores the well intentioned way those in our life can give us generalised advice and how that is processed in the moment.
The accompanying clip is fearsome and only adds to the mania of the song. Together the two work symbiotically to communicate how as individuals we mould and shape ourselves to pull through difficult times. What an apt song for these times, brilliantly written and unbelievably relatable.
