CROWDED HOUSE ANNOUNCE THE TESKEY BROTHERS, JULIA STONE & MAISTRATO AS SPECIAL GUESTS FOR CANBERRA SHOW

CROWDED HOUSE have today announced celebrated Australian band The Teskey Brothers, singer-songwriter Julia Stone, and Greek acoustic group Maistrato, as special guests on the Canberra leg of their Dreamers Are Waiting Australian tour at Stage 88 on Friday, November 11.

THE TESKEY BROTHERS

In a world obsessed with the ‘new’ The Teskey Brothers are a soothing antidote: old souls with chest-warming anthems that rouse the spirits of the greats. Formed by brothers Josh and Sam in 2008, the group set out to honour that old school Motown sound, but equally craft it into something they could call their very own. And it’s a formula that has won the band a legion of loyal fans across the country and indeed the world.

Debut album Half Mile Harvest was a homespun affair, songs built up from a decade of busking the streets of Melbourne and beyond. A raw combination of soul and blues, the record channelled the Stax Records alumni in Memphis circa ‘67 – and propelled the band from busking the boulevards onto the biggest stages in the country.

2019’s follow-up Run Home Slow would only further their reach, taking out three ARIA Awards that year. But it’s on stage where the band most comfortably resides: a fact manifested so memorably with 2020’s live album Live At The Forum and 2021’s follow-up Live At Hammer Hall, the latter accompanied in all its splendour by Orchestra Victoria. The Teskey Brothers returned earlier this year with renewed vigour and a resplendent new single to boot, Get Back To The Land (featuring Emma Donovan).

JULIA STONE

Since the release of her 2012 debut solo album, By the Horns, Julia Stone has placed her creative energies into various artistic endeavours. She and brother Angus Stone released two of their four albums – 2014’s self-titled, Platinum-selling, ARIA # 1-debuting Angus & Julia Stone and 2017’s Gold-accredited Snow featuring their hit ‘Chateau’ which took out #3 on the triple j Hottest 100 of 2018.  Stone has released 3 solo albums in total, including 2020’s critically acclaimed Sixty Summers.

MAISTRATO

Maistrato are a four-piece acoustic group hailing from Greece. Neil Finn says of the band’s addition: “The 4 good men of Maistrato. We befriended them in a small fishing village in Northern Greece and played music together till dawn, everything from Rebetiko (the Greek Blues) Laiko, Led Zeppelin to Radiohead, joyous, bittersweet songs through the ages.”

Crowded House thrilled Australian fans in April as they kicked off the first leg of their Dreamers Are Waiting tour to full houses, rapturous audiences and widespread critical acclaim, including a star turn at Bluesfest during Easter. The Guardian said, “A joyous and long-awaited return”, The Age stated, “Half concert, half singalong, Crowded House filled the Bowl with love” and The Advertiser Adelaide proclaimed, “There’s a commitment to the purity of pop, the marriage of lyric and chord to create something close to perfect.”

Crowded House’s expanded November tour now includes shows in Darwin, Cairns, Townsville, Wollongong, Sydney, Melbourne, Tamworth and Canberra, rescheduled A Day On The Green shows at Bimbadgen in the Hunter Valley (November 12) and Mt Duneed, Geelong (November 19), as well as Hobart’s MyState Arena (November 17), concluding with three shows at Perth’s Kings Park & Botanic Garden (November 25 – 27).

Dreamers Are Waiting is only Crowded House’s third Australian tour during the last 15 years.
