The Money War Announce New EP 'Blood' And Drop The Gorgeous Title Track
Indie pop/ rock power couple Dylan and Carmen Ollivierre of The Money War are announcing their new EP titled 'Blood' which will be released on November 5. Ahead of the EP, they are releasing the title track ‘Blood’ (out October 8) that is a gorgeous reflection on the intricacies of family relationships and bloodlines.
Amidst a busy year which has already seen the WA duo release single ‘Zoom’ and more recently, ‘Miles Away’, as well as becoming parents, the Mirror Music / BMG signed artists are known for combining their expertly honed crafts and shared life experiences to weave complex tales told through serene melodies and elegant production.
Their EP title track ‘Blood’ is no different, flourishing with a warm, nostalgic grace as Carmen’s pure voice flows effortlessly through the verse, framed by subtle production. The contrast between the jovial strum of the guitar and the melancholic press of the keys reminds us of the bittersweet reality of changing lives as constant percussion remains as a steadying bond. Thicker than water, a wheeling electric guitar riff dips and valleys between lyrics, another tie strengthening the song’s unity.
A true celebration of their collaborative workings, ‘Blood’ observes family relationships from the perspective of new parents, and the bonds that tie families together across generations, as Carmen explains:
“It’s written about the complexity of family relationships and bloodlines, and delves into the nature vs nurture debate I suppose. The character in the song has a very tricky relationship with their parents and they’re reflecting on whether they will become like them or learn from them. I think having a kid makes you think about things differently and we’ve been watching our song grow and change, with different characteristics starting to show through from both of us. It’s a topic that both of us have been thinking about a lot”
The Money War’s previous releases have seen raving reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone AU, Tone Deaf, Blunt Mag, theMusic, Triple J, Triple J Unearthed and more as they continue showcasing their undeniable appeal and endless talent.
The duo’s newest single ‘Blood’ is out everywhere on October 8 and will be followed by their EP on November 5.
