ChitChat - With Boler Mani
INTERVIEW BY: EM VIOLET
EM:
If you could describe your music in a few words how would you describe it?
BOLER MANI:
Dynamic, surprising, huge and hard (hehe)
EM:
What was the reason you got into music? Where did your passion come from?
BOLER:
I grew up loving music and one time in year 3 I was messing around in Garageband when I was bored and was surprised at the ease in which you could make a song so the rest has been history
EM:
Who are your main music influences?
BOLER:
Travis scott, Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Amine, Anfa Rose, Brockhampton, Jaden Smith,
EM:
What is your creative process like when you create music?
BOLER:
Start with an idea, whether it be a beat I’m making or a phrase that pops into my head, then expand from there, usually developing the beat first then writing a hook and the verse lyrics around that. After, there’s a lot of listening over to make sure I iron out any bits of sound that don’t land exactly how I want it to.
EM:
Tell us the meaning behind your latest track “Robbery”?
BOLER:
It was more of a conceptual song, focusing on a robber who falls in love with the bank teller at first sight which makes him foil his plans and gets arrested. I like coming up with random scenarios like that when I’m stuck for ideas – it really aids in coming up with lyrics.
EM:
If you could open for any artist, who would it be and why?
BOLER:
Probably Jaden Smith. Even though I don’t like his music heaps anymore, he was definitely a main influence on my music in my earlier stages and we’re the same height so I feel like we would see eye to eye on many things.
EM:
If you weren’t making music, what. Do you think you would be doing?
BOLER:
I love learning and I’m currently studying psychology and philosophy in uni at the moment, so if music doesn’t work out I would definitely pursue a path in academia.
EM:
Are you excited to be playing the livestream event that is hosted by Ali Barter and Oscar Dawson?
BOLER:
Most definitely!! It’s gonna be a fun experience to perform in a sort of music video/live setup hybrid situation.
EM:
What do you miss about live shows?
BOLER:
The adrenaline and showing off.
EM:
Any plans to release more music soon?
BOLER:
Hell yeah!!! I’m releasing an EP at the start of next year and it’s got my best songs I’ve ever made. I’m way too excited for everybody to hear what’s coming.
