INTERVIEW BY: EM VIOLET

EM:

Where did you come up with the name for the band and is there a meaning behind it?

TEENAGE DADS:

We used to have a second guitarist early into the band’s formation and he suggested it. I believe it was a name he had suggested to another band he was in but it was turned down. No meaning behind it, we just all thought it was funny at the time since we had no idea what we were doing haha!

EM:

How did you all meet? Were you friends before starting the band?

TEENAGE DADS:

Yep. All four of us went to high school together. Connor and I (Vincent) were friends since our first year but we didn’t all become good friends till year 10 (I think?) and then the band formed in year 12. We just played foursquare everyday but the band definitely brought us closer.

EM:

What bands influence you when creating music?

TEENAGE DADS:

That’s a question better suited to Jordan and Connor but I do know it changes all the time. It can even just be one part of a song rather than the artist themselves. In the past, the guys have talked about artists like The Beach Boys, Joe Jackson or Abba playing influence.

EM:

If you could open for any band, what band would it be and why?

TEENAGE DADS:

Supporting The Wiggles would be pretty awesome

EM:

If you guys weren’t playing music, what do you think you would be doing instead?

TEENAGE DADS:

We’d probably all still be at University. Angus and I still are but Connor and Jordan are taking breaks at the moment, so they’d head back I’d say.

EM:

Tell us about your recent release “Thank You For The Honey, Honey”

TEENAGE DADS:

We have been playing this song live since September last year so for anyone that has caught us since, has had a good taste. It’s a really fun song to play because we can really get into em. We had hoped to put it out sooner. The lyrics are about being left in the lurch by someone and the struggles of coping with that, and that while you’re thankful for “the honey” you fear the prospect of leading an unfulfilling life. We hope everyone is enjoying it!

EM:

What are the bands goals for the future?

TEENAGE DADS:

Take to the grown up festival slots around the world and to continue putting music out all the time. It’s a bit of a dream but hey, it would’ve been for the Beatles and every other huge act too.

EM:

Are you excited to be playing in the upcoming livestream event?

TEENAGE DADS:

Yessss! We haven’t seen each other since June so we’re just keen to hang out again haha. It’s going to be a fun day, especially getting to see our friends in the other acts too.

EM:

Favourite live show moment?

TEENAGE DADS:

Recently - Probably when we played in Adelaide supporting Lime Cordiale. We played Pocket Money for the second time I think, and we had a tremendous reception to the countdown section of the song. It was so cool hearing a massive crowd yell back at us, especially since we were the openers.

EM:

 What’s next for Teenage Dads?

TEENAGE DADS:

More music!
