How are you? How have you been coping through the pandemic? Have you been doing anything to keep yourself busy?

YES I am never not busy. Between being married to a Professional Rodeo Athlete, we have two daughters under the age of 4, run two successful businesses Shea Michelle Buckles & Shea Baby Boots we stay very busy. And not to mention over the last few months working on the game plan and release schedule for my new single “Imagine”.

How would you describe your music to someone who has never listened to your songs?

My music is unique. I have never followed the crowd or tried to create music that was like any other artist. I write a lot of my own music so try to share my personal experiences through my music. My goal is to take listeners on a journey. Music is therapy to a lot of artists- if we are going through a hard time or a happy time we can just write about it.

Who are your biggest music influences and how have they inspired you with your own music?

As a young girl I loved everything about Shania Twain. I was obsessed with watching her live DVDS. I was drawn to the way she would work the stage and her concerts would leave you wanting me. Garth Brooks was another big influence on my career. Both him & Shania were known as performers. Besides country music influences I would study Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston- any artist that knew how to work the stage & capture an audience. I think this is why I love to play live shows- I love to entertain people and bring a smile to their face.

How did you first get into making music? What was the reason that made you realise you wanted to do this as a career?

I didn't grow up in a musical family. I actually grew up in a rodeo family. My Dad is an Australia champion bull rider and mother Australian Champion Barrel Racer. I started by singing the National Anthem at Rodeos and happened to meet a guy named Steve Forde who at the time was traveling performing shows at the same Rodeos my family was competing at. Steve became a good friend and my Manager, and we wrote my first album together, he helped me sign my first record deal with ABC Music and the rest is history.

What was the inspiration behind your new track “Imagine”?

I wrote this song many years ago prior to meeting my husband. But I was just sick of not being able to find a guy who would MAN UP and jump two feet into a relationship. The guys I seemed to meet all wanted to date & “hang out” but never fully committed. I think it’s a fun song & a lot of girls out there can relate to it.

What would you say has been your biggest achievement as a musician?

That’s a hard one to answer. I have so many things I class as big achievements for myself personally. Signing my first record deal at age 17 was pretty amazing, having my first number 1 song at age 18 I still remember how shocked & excited I was. And then moving to the US and signing with an American record label. I am just so grateful for even the small things I have been blessed with during my career.

In the four years of not releasing music, what were you up to in that time?

Well besides having two little girls I was also building our businesses in the US. But  even though I didn't have music on radio etc I was still writing songs, recording,  basically waiting for the right time to be able to release new music. To me, it’s important to be able to focus the right amount of time to something to make it work and be successful. I feel now I am at a good place in life that I can release new music and plan to have several more songs out over the next 12 months. It’ not just the one song “Imagine” that you will get to hear.

What is the message behind the new track? What are you hoping fans take from it? Really I hope fans can dance to it and have a good time. Things right now are so uncertain with the virus going on that I wanted to release an upbeat, fun song. But I think girls need to realize that a real man is one that will be committed in a relationship & that’s the type of guy us girls need. This is one of those girl anthem songs. I tend to release a lot of those haha!

If you could give any advice to young women who are aspiring to be musicians, what would it be? It’s ok to be unique. Don't try and be something you are not. Another thing I have learnt over the years, is don't let others be the judge of how successful you can be or how big your dream can be! People will say you can’t do it, or you’re not good enough but you know what? You’re as good as you want to work to become, and some of the most successful artists of all times were told this same thing and look at them now!

Do you have plans to release anything else by the end of the year? YES I plan to have another single released around November this year, and several others to follow in 2021! You have not heard the last of me with this one single.
