'STRANGE KIND OF FUTURE' RELEASE TITLE TRACK FROM FORTHCOMING HORROR CONCEPT ALBUM, 'AUSTRALIAN NIGHTMARE'

On January 25th, 2022, blues-rock raconteurs, Strange Kind of Future, are set to release spine-tingling spoken-word ballad 'Australian Nightmare', the title track from their forthcoming horror-themed concept album set for release later in 2022.

The project initially began as a blues band collaboration, which was formed in mid-2021 by Oscar Galt (Guitar, Vocals) and Matt Bourke (Bass). However, it was a propensity for the macabre paired with Galt's ambitious nature that spawned the unique concept: A body of work whereby each song is dedicated to a particular element of horror and paired with a visual artist, adding a polarising and collaborative dimension to the performance.

The lyrically-driven track, 'Australian Nightmare', chronicles the terrifying tale of two Americans stranded without hope in the vast and unrelenting Australian outback. The tense soundscape underscores Galt's captivating lyricism, as the storyteller sets the scene for a nightmarish narrative to unfold over seven heart-pounding minutes.

Galt explains, "The song is inspired by classic Australian horror films, notably Wolf Creek and Snowtown. There's a loneliness and emptiness in those films that you won't find in an American or British production. The goal was to capture the vast and unforgiving nature of the Australian outback and highlight the terror of having to place faith in a stranger in unfamiliar territory".

The instrumentation is a masterclass in building suspense, complete with twisted, contorted guitar lines, dissonant keyboard stabs, and a jarring bass groove that evokes a visceral sense of foreboding dread.

Galt continues, "We referenced Tom Waits a lot here. Particularly his track 'What's He Building In There'. There are also nods to PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, and Queens Of The Stone Age, all of which were big influences for this project".

For this iteration of 'Strange Kind Of Future', Galt has drawn upon a range of talented Naarm/Melbourne-based musicians, including Matt Bourke on bass (Matt Bourke and The Delusional Drunks), Hollie Joyce on guitar & BVs, Michael Hood on drums (Yes Yes Whatever), and Mitch Rice on keys (Beans).

Issac Barter (Oh Pep!) recorded, mixed, and engineered the track in his home studio. The band live-tracked the song to achieve a rawer, looser feel, with overdubs and room delays added once they established a solid base. Instrumental layering, guitars loaded with overdrives, fuzzes and delays, and soaring BV's usher the track towards a spectacularly horrific crescendo.

In an exclusive, one show only event, the live band will be showcasing the album in its entirety, complete with a unique visual experience at the Gasometer Hotel on February 3rd, 2022, with support from Bec Goring, Planet Pain (solo), and Special Guests. Tickets HERE.

ABOUT STRANGE KIND OF FUTURE

Strange Kind Of Future is a new way of examining how we value entertainment. Developed in the midst of lockdowns and uncertainty about the future of music, collaborators Oscar Galt and Matt Bourke pivoted a project that they had been working on to create a new vision for how a band could exist and function. Cut to ‘Australian Nightmare’, a horror-themed record loaded with musical collaborators including Alison Thom (Howlite), Bec Goring, and Hollie Joyce.

Each individual track is paired with a visual artist who creates a piece inspired by the song. That piece is then animated to accompany the song's live performance. The result is something that cannot be achieved by a single individual, but only the strength of a vibrant and flourishing artistic community.

Strange Kind Of Future’s ‘Australian Nightmare’  isn’t simply a band, it’s an exhibition.

'Australian Nightmare’ is the first release and title track from the band's forthcoming horror concept album, set for release later in 2022. In an exclusive, one show only event, the live band will be showcasing the album in its entirety, complete with a unique visual experience at the Gasometer Hotel on February 3rd, 2022, with support from Bec GoringPlanet Pain (solo) and special guests.
