Brisbane Prog-Metal band The Stranger have released their brand new album “Kaleidoscope” which features nine dominating tracks that will keep your love for prog-metal satisfied. The five piece have shared the stage with acts such as Voyager, Monuments, Caligula’s Horse, and The Ocean while they have also played at festivals such as ProgFest. This band are smashing their way through the Brisbane metal scene with force and this brand new album shows what they are capable of.

Starting off the album is “Eleventh Hour” which starts off with this great synth sound that guarantees that this is going to be one hell of an album. Straight after the synth we are greeted with a heavy riff that strikes with force and gets you hooked in. Just the instrumentals in the start of this song is enough to make you love this band. “The Gemini” is the next track we are met with which listeners have heard before as it was released as a teaser for the album. This fun five minute track is full of flavour with it’s spicy riffs, strong rhythm and engaging vocals which makes it a definite highlight track. The next track is titled “Jungles” which features some hard hitting drums and strong vocals which come together to create that heavy progressive sound that we know and love.

This is followed by “Jester” which has harsh drums and drowns you in sick bass while still having the great guitar riffs and vocals that we’ve heard throughout the album so far. The middle track in the album “Coming Home” is somewhat of a palette cleanser as it’s a two-minute instrumental treat, filled up with melodic acoustic guitars and overlaid with sweet guitar riffs. After this, “Siren” comes in punching hard with it’s fast paced everything that brings a catchy beat and an overall highlight track.

“Creatures In The Canopy” and “The Devil You Don’t” are equally as good as everything else on the album, bringing back a little synth and strong vocals. The last track is the title track and it is definitely the perfect track to finish off this fantastic album. It brings such a great sound to tie everything together and finish it up while being extra catchy.

This album is overall extraordinary, the way this band uses synth and mix it in with heavy riffs amazes me. Anyone can mix those two things together but definitely not like these guys. Along with synth, they also feature some pure heavy tracks that are bound to grab your attention and have you wanting more. The Stranger have done such a great job with creating this album that is strong and heavy but has a uniqueness to it that I just dig. I cannot recommend this album enough and I see nothing but big things in the future for this band.
