Avalanche - Permanent Ink Review

REVIEW BY: JADE GUIDA

Avalanche are their own gritty, no fucks taken, no fucks given brand of rock n’ roll. This band is aptly named, the band started in a western Sydney factory and while it may never have been a snowflake they very quickly became the Avalanche that rushed through the underground music scene with hard hitting grit.

If you haven’t been to an Avalanche show, allow me to paint you a picture. You walk in and there are some fiercely loyal fans that have plastered themselves to a barricade. Room is buzzing before a single member steps on to the stage. Veronica ‘V’ Taleski is a true performer and an absolute electrifying lead guitarist. V isn’t bound by space or convention and will often play part of the set on the floor, on the barricade or in the crowd rallying  patrons that are  now  adding to the already beer soaked floors. Arthur Divis is the epitome of the rock n’ roll messiah.  You have to do a double take at the Jesus look alike who produces this huge raw fusion of classic rock, metal and punk. Ryan Roma is the dynamic indisputable  backbone on the drums. Then rounding this band off is the  mischievous Steven Campbell.  Campbell is undeniably a powerhouse  lead vocalist with a rock n’ roll attitude. He delivers a high energy performance and has a bit of fun with his classic rock antics stripping to the waist and on occasion will be seen miming ‘cumming’ actions with his bass.

Last time I left an Avalanche show I was covered in sweat and spit and none of it was my own.

Last week the band released their new single and music video for Permanent Ink’, via Golden Robot Records.  The song delivers on the bands unquestionably gritty sound.  This track is the Hulk of songs. It is 4 minutes and 53 seconds of locked and loaded crazy. The track has all the makings of a classic; Hard-hitting riff - check, Screeching solo - check, powerful vocals - check. When you scratch the surface the song is a really nice critique on the prejudices held by society for things that might sit even just slightly outside the conventional. The song is a fevrent look at societies willingness to judge individuals by their ‘ink’.  The accompanying video gives you a glimpse in to the high energy performance you can expect from the band.

Overall the song has a lot of heart. You can taste the passion and energy the band has for delivering their brand of rock to audiences, sure it tastes a bit like the metallic after taste of a bloody lip but you couldn’t have Rock any other way.
