Bring Me The Horizon & YUNGBLUD 1.jpg

Yungblud joins Bring Me The Horizon (BMTH).

That is sentence I didn’t know I wanted to write, it is a combination I didn’t know I needed to hear.

Bring Me The horizon have always been trail blazers when it has come to the direction of their music. They have evolved so much over time in both sound and the themes they tackle.

Yungblud burst on to the scene already a legend, so this was almost a match made in alternative heaven. Yungblud has had a flurry of colab pieces and while I am absolutely Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) obsessed I have to admit this is my favourite collab so far.

This latest track “Obey” is a heavy hitter, it features vocals from both BMTH frontman Oli Sykes and Yungblud, shared with the dramatic and almost cinematic masterpiece that was the accompanying video which has the two singers battling it out in mountain sized- robots.

Sonically, hard-hitting the track has the same feel as BMTH more recent releases. It is also incredibly polished, every note played, every lyric written for this piece, there is purpose and this is the quality you would expect from a band with as much experience as BMTH. Obey” is described as “a soaring ode about how, as a society, oppression has been so normalized in our DNA that we can’t even see it anymore.”

This is the kind of music we have come to expect from both BMTH and Yungblud, both quite transparent in their music about the direction they think society has taken in recent years. Music like this transcends some notes played by a band, some lyrics sung, a video played – these musicians are contributing to the shape of our world, commenting on our society and making their stand.

It is impossible to not love a track that is calling on our society to look inward and outward at our world views and step forward together.

This track and video is powerful, creative and pushing all of the right boundaries.
