City Of Souls - Cruelty - Song Review

Fuck.

Is it wrong if my first reaction to this song was something that bordered on frantic trepidation.

I am excited by this band and this huge track.  Describing this as progressive is no where close to doing it justice.

This song is unique and delicately balances two opposing concepts. The song has an underpinning dark and somber energy which finely dances on a knifes edge throughout the track. It is just enough to real you in and drag you under as the song progresses, but it also offers  delicate and fragile notes. It is rare to listen to a prog track and the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Jesus Christ that was scary and poignant and I need to just take a minute with my thoughts’. What a composite track by one of New Zealand's most well though of prog acts. The song hits all the right heavy notes and as frankly I think is a bit of a banger.

Any music lover will tell you that sometimes a band or a song will just reach in to this part of you and just connect and I can honestly say I was absolutely moved by the complexity and depth of this masterfully written track.
