Congrats - 'Lobotomy' - Song Review
REVIEW BY: JADE GUIDA
Creating a lush sonic pop sound fused with candid pop punk lyrics Ben Stewart has revealed the next mesmerizing installment of his Solo Project Congrats, a new track titled “Lobotomy”.
Ben Stewart is one of the most capable and talented musicians in the Australian music scene at the moment. Ben’s sparkling vocals layered with his complex song writing resulting in another track that is guaranteed to cause obsession. Stewart's music is like raw honey on the tongue, a symphony of bitter sweet notes that resonate long after you have swallowed. Lobotomy is no exception. This song is a maze of intricate concepts weaving in and out, inevitably tying you in knots that at the song's conclusion you are left to unpick. Exploring the song from the first note you get this sense of chaos, like its predecessor release “Russian Roulette”, “Lobotomy” has a wistful yet simultaneously optimistic beginning that falls away into palpable grit as soon as the first line is delivered. Hit me in the head – is the opening line and the song pretty much delivers as promised. Every release from Congrats is a story, you follow the lyrics like you would the plot of your favorite Tv show or novel, invested in the emotional journey of our protagonist. The only parallel I can draw for this talent is John Floreani of Trophy Eyes. The ability to create music of this quality is a skill rarely observed in music today. Lobotomy is addictive and all-consuming and a must listen track.
