In Hearts Wake - WorldWide Suicide - Song Review
WORDS BY: JADE GUIDA
Well Well Well, As it turns out this is an emergency.
Aussie metal core five-piece In Hearts Wake have returned with a powerful new single tackling one of the most prominent issues of our time, ecological injustice with their newest single, ‘worldwide suicide’.
The track opens with a sample of climate activist Greta Thunberg’s address at the Climate Strike in NYC. The haunting opening to the track is heard like an outcry over the frantic rhythmic underlay and incisive riff. By all measures this song is a criticism on the widespread violation of global ecosystems and humanities obvious inability to begin the healing of what the band is calling out as a Global ecological crisis. This song has been written with purpose and an unrivaled honesty which ultimately lends to its impactful nature.
The impassioned video for ‘Worldwide Suicide’ sees the band performing inside a house on fire. The rather confronting video delves into what a lot of people would consider a post-apocalyptic world. A stark visual of a likely future based on humanities inaction regarding ecological injustice. On the surface the video is quite shocking but I think when you start to pick it a part you understand that it is ultimately a call to action. The song and video are calling for change and decisive action to change our trajectory. To further their ideation the band has committed o planting one tree for every 1000 views the clip receives.
