Song Review - 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER - “COMPLETE MESS”

REVIEW BY: ISABELLA URETA

The intro to this song is beautiful! “Caught up in heaven, but your heaven ain't, and I never been a saint have I” The music begins nice and slow and the solo vocals stand out and draw you in instantly to the emotion of this song. It’s definitely about love, pain and growth. I feel that's what I hear when I listen to the lyrics. Love makes you feel this way don't you think ? mate it can make you feel all sorts of ways, it's demanding, without pain you can’t have pleasure. And it’s messy. He says “oh you make me complete, a complete mess”

5 Seconds of Summer of 5SOS, are an Aussie pop band from Sydney. This is my first time listening to this band, with this song as their intro. Love the song. I’m not 100% sure who wrote the song, the lyrics behind it are what makes the song. Relationships are something we all experience on a day to day basis, that being romantic is definitely one that can hurt. This song basically sends out that message, “ I learnt my lesson when I saw you slip away” this is exactly what relationships teach us, makes us feel. They are lessons. Love isn’t supposed to cause you stress, grief, insecurity. It’s not healthy. I’m not an expert though I believe relationships are supposed to complement your life. A healthy relationship shouldn’t bring you so much disappointment and frustration, but joy and special moments you can appreciate.

Anyways the whole music behind it, really draws you in, which is so important when you're first listening to a tune, those first 15 seconds are what grab your attention. It's soft, and the lyrics are beautiful. It’s kinda like an old school song I would have heard in high school. Highschool for me was the 2000's. The singers in this song have a really nice voice, and a pleasant tone too. It's pretty and gives me a sense of emotion when I listen to this song, it kinda makes me teary, and a little sad, but in a good way. Triggers some feelings for sure. Good job to 5SOS, and my first time listening to you guys.
