Song Review - Confidence Man - 'Holiday'

Electro pop band, Confidence Man, have the newest party song for you to rave over. The single ‘Holiday’, releases just six months before their next album, TILT, building anticipation for fans.

The first time I heard Confidence Man, was live at my university, not too long after their first album dropped (Confident Music For Confident People, 2018) and they simply blew me away. Everything they do is showy and fun and engaging; this song is no different.

‘Holiday’ gives off 90s synth vibes with their iconic flair and like most of their other songs, ‘Holiday’ is simple. It is simply written and simply conveyed, which is a great thing! Now allow me to explain what I mean. I found myself singing and bopping along with it so easily because of how simple it is to the ear. You listen to it once and from then on, you know what to anticipate. You begin to react to it instinctively and I LOVE THAT. If you know anything about Confidence Man, you know their main goal is to give you a sense of euphoria. They want you to lose yourself in their music, to essentially go into a state of bliss and just dance along with them.

I found that it does have a bit of a different sound to their debut album, and you notice it from the very beginning. Usually, their songs are very in your face. They’re raunchy, they’re sexy, they’re saucy and they aren’t shy about it (especially Sugar Bones). However, they have toned down all of those things, excluding the sexy of course. As a reference, listen to ‘First Class Bitch’ and ‘Better Sit Down Boy’, you’ll see what I mean.

Trying not to use words too close to the title, ‘Holiday’ takes you on a trip of sorts. The first minute is something of an operatic opening, they slowly ease you in with a rhythmic symphony of beat drops and synths, done by the mysterious Reggie Goodchild and Clarence McGuffie, before really making you groove.

I think TILT is something to be highly anticipated and if any of the songs are like ‘Holiday’, we are in for a real treat.

TILT is slated to be dropped 1 April 2022.
