Song Review - Crowded House Tame Impala - To The Island Remix
REVIEW BY: BEN LAMB
Two Of the most iconic Oceanic groups; Tame Impala and Crowded House, have joined forces for ‘To The Island,’ a quirky modern but old-school track. It started as a track the Crowded House front man Neil Finn sent to Kevin Parker, who liked it, and put his own spin on it.
The track opens with the classic Tame modern soul-esque keys, paired with sounds from the jungle. Neil’s vocals then effortlessly slide in with vulnerability and emotion. Then we get some bongos and more quirky jungle noises and synth sounds, fitting perfectly with the Tame Impala vibe. Neil’s vocals are full of effects as well, much alike that of Kevin Parker’s in many of Tame’s tracks.
This modern vibe carries throughout the track, and you wouldn’t be mistaken if you thought it was a Tame Impala song to begin with, Kevin Parker does a marvellous job at making it his own. About the track, Neil Finn said; “With all the world upended and nothing in its right place we became curious to hear how our favourite contemporary musicians and record makers might reimagine a Crowded House song,”
This remix, along with a remix by Unknown Mortal Orchestra is set to be released as a limited vinyl single. The original track, along with many more, drops Friday 4 June on the group’s upcoming album, Dreamers Are Waiting.
